Grandma Addie and I spent spent a day seeing the sites of the greater Davenport area. First off, the Blackhawk Park museum. It showed how and where the Native Americans that migrated to the region lived. They had different dwellings for the seasons. Wide open boxes for the hot summer and smaller domes for the winter. It also showed how the white man steered them away from their hunter/ gatherer and farming traditions to fur trading which ultimately led to their downfall. the museum was interesting and the surrounding parks were pleasant in the fall. Best of all Grandma's tickled pink by the place so she liked it just as much as I did despite the fact she has been there a dozen times.
Next is the Iowa 80, also known as the the worlds largest truck stop! Inside of the truck stop there is the normal amenities like food and restrooms. Then they tack on showers, laundry, sleeping rooms and tractor customizing superstore. After that they take it "over the top" with a movie theatre, dentist, chiropractor and trucking museum. Finally, they sprinkle antique trucks and show tractors throughout and they have the recipe for the worlds largest truck stop. (as soon as i figure out how we'll post the rest of the pics)
Aside from that we did a lot of lounging and napping. We broke that up with some trips to the American Legion, the Moose and an assortment of fine eating and drinking establishments in the area. Vacationing at it's finest :)
Hangin with the cous and his lady right outside of Cleveland which is apparently the "Covered Bridge Capitol of America". I can't argue because they were everywhere. If anyone can see this picture And how they didn't cover the 20 ft on the left And explain why; I'd appreciate it. That was a mouthful.
Speaking of unexplained, below is the shortest covered bridge in the USA measuring in at 6 foot long. Who says vo-tec kids never accomplish anything.
Not an illusion. my shadow is as long as this bridge and it was necessary to cover it.
The beautiful banks of Lake Erie at sunset. Surf lapping up onto the stone step jetty provided the sound-track. Take away the garbage on the sand and the cold it would be paradise. But still, it feels like its missing something...
Driftwood trees!!
After these shenanigans we went to the most dangerous jungle gym ever. Everything that doesn't spin super fast is dangerously narrow and easy to fall off. The fluid around my brain was swirling so i neglected to take photos. If you want a terrific opportunity to cause yourself bodily harm; talk to my good friends Kevin and Kayla. Other questions about fashion, cats, estate sales and general tom-foolery should also be directed to Kayla the "dainty squid".Thanks guys.
